Freedom Festival 2006

July 1 and 2 2006

Southern Ohio

24 hour Outdoor Creative Arts Festival

brought to you by

Stealth Entertainmnet Inc

Musical line up for the weekend

Mixmaster Morris aka The Irresistible Force

Ninja Tune,Astralwerks,Global Chillage,London,UK
http://www.southern.com/MMM

Mixmaster Morris is an underground legend who hardly needs introduction. He started on pirate radio in '85 with 'the Mongolian Hip Hop Show' and since then he's been the most dynamic force on the UK avant garde. Started The Irresistible Force in '87 and developed live acid house concept into The Madhouse (1988) which is widely credited as first live techno event in London. He made his name as the hardest working chillout DJ in the world, doing allnight soundscapes in 30 countries at a bizarre selection of parties. In the US he appeared at 'Even Further' in '96, at the Full Moon party in the Mojave Desert, at the Plantasia rave in San Bernadino, on a boat party in San Francisco, and at many small clubs in NY, SF, LA, Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, Milwaukee etc. In Germany, he appeared at the Berlin Love Parade for six years running (the worlds largest techno event), and recorded two deeply chilled Dreamfish albums with Frankfurt electroguru Pete Namlook (and a third might be on the way?). He's still one of the Uk's most popular DJs across the country. In the UK he's been resident DJ at Glastonbury Festival for five years, warming up for the Prodigy , Chemical Brothers, Jamiroquai, Stereolab etc. In Japan he played all over the country, including the massive Rainbow 2000 raves on the sacred Mt Fuji. Nowaday's he's recognised as a leading critic of corporate dance music - in fact he's been credited with inventing that meme ..... Many of the best electronic acts had their first press coverage courtesy of the Mixmaster eg Aphex Twin, Ken Ishii, Black Dog, Orbital, Atom Heart, Bedouin Ascent and more recently T Power, Squarepusher, Dot Records, Jimpster. No wonder Radio 1's John Peel named him as his 'natural successor' ...

Spacetime Continuum aka Jonah Sharp
Astralwerks,Reflective Records,San Francisco

http://music.hyperreal.org/artists/stc/

Jonah Sharp's music career is marked first and foremost by experimentalism. Being among the first ambient techno producers, he broke onto the scene in 1993 with his "Flurescence" EP on his own Reflective label. Shortly after, his Spacetime Continuum act was the first domestic project to be signed to the Astralwerks label.

After starting his musical career in London as a jazz drummer, he left the scene - and the country - to move to San Francisco. Having made his mark in the ambient scene between the years of 1993 and 1995, his experimentalism led him to create "Emit Ecaps", a dancefloor-oriented groove. Having made his statement about his creative prowess, and before getting comfortable in what could have been a formula for success for any other artist, he put his drum machines to rest and reached for a Fender Rhodes. Effectively tossing the dance floor and the jazz club in a blender, the resulting work "Double Fine Zone" emerges, defining yet another musical direction for Spacetime Continuum.

Frankie Bones

EMG,Sonic Groove,Brooklyn,NYC

http://www.frankiebones.com

Brooklyn 1973. New York's Frankie Bones not yet old enough to cross the street finds his way through the abandoned freight tracks at the end of his block to a flea market. It was there that this young boy became addicted to something that was later admired upon. "I'm a vinyl junky, I've been buying records every weekend since 1973. It didn't take me long to figure out that records were made for people who D.J., and I love to to turn people on to music". Soon the grafitti writer turned producer was propelled into the limelight and was receiving huge success via his partnership with Tommy Musto (Musto & Bones). With releases such as "Dangerous on the Dancefloor" and the album "The Future is Ours" the hoouse phenomenom was born. He soon began solo projects releasing an innovative series of 12"s on his Breakin' Bones imprint. At 5.30am on the 26th August, 1989 Frankie Bones walked on stage in front of 25,000 people. The event was called "Energy", and was to go down in history.

The Prodigy's Liam Howlett speaks of this time: "I was into Frankie Bones, he would really rip it up. I'd go out and get inspiration listening to him, come home and write music". Fuelled by this experience Frankie took it upon himself to start a scene in his native Brooklyn. The legendary "BonesBreaks" series and "Lonny Tunes" ep's on NU Groove started coming out. He started throwing small parties called "Stormrave". These parties exploded, going from just a handful of people to 5,000 people in a warehouse, on September 19th 1992. These parties gave many of todays most revered dj/producers their first taste: Sven Vath, Adam "X", Josh Wink, Richie Hawtin, Joey Beltram to name just a few. Frankie opened up the first specialist record store in New York; Groove Records in Brooklyn. Driven by his love for the underground he pioneered the East Coast scene.

Today, Frankie's store has changed name and moved location. Sonic Groove Records on Carmine St, Manhattan is the best specialist underground electronic music record shop in the USA if not the world. frankie is still looked upon as the "father of the East Coast rave scene": the innovator. He is the most sought after dj throughour North America and is regaining his rightful position in the UK scene: Grand maestro of the undergound. Now with his brother Adam "X" they have started one of the best futuristic electronic record labels, which is aptly namd after their store: Sonic Groove. Strivng to constantly push the boundaries of techno and house music, Frankie Bones is truly a living legend.

RJD2

DefinitiveJux,Philly,PA

http://www.rjd2site.com

Contrary to popular belief, heroes sometimes lurk behind the curtains, actively choosing to elude visibility. Make no mistake, though-if the mystery man behind the boards is the man behind a classic beat, you'll soon know his name. In the late 90's, producers crept from the shadows to seize the spotlight of mainstream hip-hop, as well as the pop charts. In the last few years, one man shows such as Moby, DJ Shadow and Timbaland have proved what underground hip-hop fans have known since Marley Marl's heyday-a talented producer can shine solo. Enter RJD2.

From 1998 to 1999, he saw success blossom as DJ/producer for the Columbus-based group the Megahertz, with two twelve-inch singles on Bobbito Garcia's legendary NY label, Fondle 'em records. This explosive entrance to the underground hip-hop scene gave way to shows from Europe to Japan, not to mention garnering mention in Vibe magazine's "History of Hip-Hop" historical volume. Opening doors outside of the east coast, the MHz went on to appear on the Bay Area's ABB records compilation, Always Bigger and Better, Volume 1. Their contribution (entitled "This Year") was voted best track on the ABB website, while competing against major label heavyweights such as Dilated Peoples and Defari.

In 2000, the praise only continued for RJD2, producing Copywrite's debut single "Holier Than Thou" on Rawkus Records. The work certainly didn't stop there; spring of 2001 was RJD2's formal introduction to hip-hop as a solo artist on Def Jux Presents, a compilation showcasing the roster of his record label, Definitive Jux Records. Having to hold his own next to NYC underground legends such as Company Flow, Cannibal Ox, and Aesop Rock, RJD2 did no less. That summer he followed up this string of releases with his own twelve inch entitled "June", which featured fellow MHz member Copywrite laying down two incredible book-end verses. Melding the hip-hop tradition of raw, gritty samples with a more classical approach to song structure, he has concocted a style of production that pleases the most discerning hip-hop scholar without compromising that old dance floor aesthetic.

2002 saw RJD2 release the critcally acclaimed debut "Dead Ringer", which not only solidified his spot as one of the underground's top producers, but also caught the ears of Grammy-man ?uestlove of The Roots who called the album one of his favorite of the year. Not to mention even landing the track "Ghost Writer" in a Saturn ad, with juggling solo ventures, producing rappers, and DeeJaying, the man is certainly in the hot seat at the moment. It has been said by many legendary producers that the ultimate goal is to move a crowd-not just to dance, but sometimes also to feel and think. In this vein, RJD2 is only continuing a time-honored tradition.

T-1000

Pure Sonik/Generator/Tresor/Chicago

http://www.alanoldham.com

Even the most casual partygoer has doubtlessly at sometime in his life heard the music suddenly go dead and be replaced by a booming voice announcing the greatest talent on tables. This is the voice of DJ T-1000: Alan D. Oldham.

Detroit-based Oldham is a man of many and varied talents. Oldham is more a composer than your normal producer, successfully combining all his life experience into musical testament, a rare capability in the world of loops and samples. 1992 gave Oldham what he credits was his "profoundly life-changing" break when he was invited by Mike Banks to be the Underground Resistance DJ during their world tour of 1992-93.

The momentum of this and subsequent events moved him to launch his Generator Techno label: The proud Detroit thoroughbred of heralded quality and consistency the recording appearances of which included such names Alan Oldham himself, Woody McBride, Dave Clarke and Marco Passarani, all of whom have recorded in a variety of sonically-challenging genres all on one ambitious record label.

Maybe too ambitious though as Oldham made the calculated decision to shut Generator permanently down. In its place to keep him busy is the new Pure Sonik imprint. It serves as the exclusive spotlight for Oldham's own productions under the DJ/recording pseudonym DJ T-1000. Raw, stripped-down, minimal, DJ friendly and definitely underground is the direction for the label.

An interesting side to his well-known musical production strengths is his infamous graphic artwork. A staple of the Detroit Underground beginning with self-published (and now highly collectible) comic book "Johnny Gambit" (1987), the opulence of his talent soon discovered his work appearing on the Transmat and Astralwerks Record labels among others. And who could forget the over seven years of Djax Up Beats Record label drawings he has masterminded?

Of most recent import and in addition to his Stateside appearances on Pure Sonik, Oldham struck close alliances with Tresor Records in 1997. DJ T-1000's "Jetset Lovelife" EP was the first fruit of this all-new cooperation that appeared in January 1998, followed by his debut album "Progress" in summer 1999.

DJ T-1000 has always consistently turned out the most flexible documents to his personality. Whether DJing worldwide or within his own productions, this fearless operator truly encompasses all that is Electronica, combining film music with New Wave melodies, monotone club anthems with Grunge-inflected guitar feedback. With admitted influences ranging from Massive Attack and Timbaland to Juan Atkins and Regis, Oldham's output has taken down the borders, combined the concepts and blended the elements into autobiographical narrative.

Fall 2005 sees DJ T-1000 moving from the US to Berlin and will make his European tours even more extensive.

Heather Heart

EMG,Sonic Groove,NYC
http://www.eastmusicgroup.com

One of the better known techno djs, Heather has been traveling the country promoting her diverse styles for over a decade. A key player, she has been bringing the sound and culture of electronic underground to the forefront since the early years. Featured in
such publications as Paper, Billboard, New York, XLR8r, FrontPage, Village Voice and Jane, her work has been recognized for her captivating style and contributions to the advancement of electronica. The fanzine "Under One Sky" which Heather published from 91-96 created a forum for the US and global underground to meet and flourish.

Her appearance in the groundbreaking film "Better Living Through Circuitry," along with the inclusion of her music in the films soundtrack, showcased her talents to a wider audience and earned her new found respect. "...one of the most amazing, stirring DJ's I've ever heard" quoted one fan after an incredible, dancefloor filled, spin session at Guernica, NYC.

Daytime live performance by
The Surrogate band

With Pink Floyd absent in the live music scene, five musicians from Michigan have risen to fill the void. They joined forces in 2003 to form The Surrogate Band, America’s Most Authentic Pink Floyd Tribute. Their devotion to the music of Pink Floyd has resulted in countless hours spent recreating the live experience of the legendary rock band. The Surrogate Band is not the only group inspired enough to do this kind of tribute project. Far from it! What does set them apart is the amazing detail with which they perform the music. Guitar tones, drum fills, vocal harmonies, keyboard layers, female backup singers, and impeccably recreated sound effects: all of these are intensely studied and rehearsed in order to bring the listener exactly what they came to hear. Even the most hard core Pink Floyd fanatics are blown away by the meticulous attention to detail!Every time The Surrogate Band takes the stage, they are contributing to a legacy. This is not a responsibility they take lightly, for they are playing music that has sold (and continues to sell) millions of albums worldwide and inspires multiple generations of music lovers to this very day! The Surrogate Band will show you why.
