About SHPONGLE:

(SIMON POSFORD DJ SET)

Dongle and Mongle are the only two other words rhyming with Shpongle...
a strange hybrid of electronic manipulation and shamanic midgets with frozen digits squeezing the envelope and crawling through the doors of perception, finding a new pair of dice...extra numbers and colours in an infinite expanding bubble, filled with a bizzare, strange worlds of dripping halucinatory wallpaper, a garden of earthly delights
...........Shpongleland....truly unfathomable like separating water from its wetness, the Ineffable Mysteries unweave .....

Simon Posford, aka Hallucinogen, along with Raja Ram ( who will not be part of this DJ set) are the geniouses who probably redefined Psy Trance and pushed it to an entirely new realm.

Simon Posford and Raja Ram are Shpongle, an ambient techno/trance project formed in 1996 after the pair viewed a solar eclipse in India. The two went into the studio and attempted to duplicate the experience in sonic form, and the result was a 20-minute track, "...And the Day Turned to Night," which was featured on a Twisted label compilation titled Eclipse. Shpongle's full-length debut album, ' Are You Shpongled?', was released in early 1999.

What does it mean to ' get shpongled' ?

For those who have seen him, you know. Those who missed him in Knoxville last June, here is your chance:

Shpongle is not a show or a concert, it is a coming together of spirits, a collective energy captivating and weaving through your senses as if swimming in sound waves.
The richness and complexity of the sound interlaced with rhythms reminiscent of tribal beats evoke a sense of unparalleled 'otherworldly-ness' that is Shpongleland.

Simon is a remarkable UK producer who has brought people together all over the world through his music: either as full band, (often up to as many as 13 people) DJ sets with Raja Ram, or as Hallucinogen, attesting to the universal appeal of his eccentric and beautiful productions.

The spectacular new album from Shpongle 'Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland' out now on Twisted Music.

Hallucinogen in DUB (Simon Posford & OTT DJ set)

Goa trance producer Hallucinogen is also founder of the English-based label Twisted Records. More commonly known as Simon Posford, his first album, Twisted, was originally released in 1995 and helped create his strong European fanbase. His second album, The Lone Deranger, followed up with more psychedelic trance songs and was originally released in 1997 (it was available in America three years later).

In Dub is a psychedelic-influenced dub album released in October 2002. It is a collection of Hallucinogen tracks remixed by the record producer Ott. Ott hatched a plan to remix half a dozen or so classic Hallucinogen trance tracks and release them as dub mixes - slower, fatter and more chillout friendly. In 2002 the album "Hallucinogen in Dub" was released via Twisted Records to universal acclaim.

About Prometheus:

(BENJI VAUGHAN DJ SET)

Producer Benji Vaughan aka Prometheus is one of Twisted records leading trance acts. Along with Tristan and Hallucinogen he forms the forefront of the international trance scene, playing gigs as Prometheus, and Younger Brother with Simon Posford all over the world, from Greece to Japan, Finland, Denmark, Mexico, and the USA.
Benji has been making trance music under various guises since the early 90’s and has featured as Prometheus/Younger Brother on Twisted, Prometheus on Dragonfly and Cyberbaba’s with Raja Ram on TIP Records always making the most cutting edge sounds and taking trance into new directions.

It is this trance output that he is most famous for even from his earliest single, ‘Clarity from Deep Fog’ with Process, right up to his latest, ‘Number Cruncher/ Snakes & Ladders’.
His sets at Samothraki dance festival in Greece and elsewhere have been the highlights of the event as in Finland and Japan recently where he played to several thousands in Osaka and Tokyo.

About OTT:

Ott was doomed to be a teenager in the cultural wasteland that was the mid-1980's provincial England. After a brief period wandering aimlessly through the hairsprayed deserts of New Romanticism and poodle-rock he found refuge in the warm, inviting sounds of Scientist, King Tubby, LKJ, and Prince Far-I and the effortless grace of European experimentalists Neu! and Kraftwerk. Here he stayed until he felt it was safe to pop his head up again.

The end of the 1980's brought with it a cultural and musical revolution and Ott headed to London to immerse himself in the new energy. Initially unimpressed by the frantic, unmusical clatterings of acid house and "rave" he discovered a new wave of artists who apparently shared his love of organic dub and pristine electronics. Artists such as The Orb, Dub Syndicate, FSOL and African Head Charge. These were people who were unafraid to combine bass-heavy rhythm, abstract soundscape and timeless melody into a huge, ever-shifting sonic universe which reflected perfectly the spirit of hope and positivity which prevailed.

It was at this point that Ott found his first work as an engineer in several studios around North London. Working obsessively, 18 hours a day, seven days a week for the next ten years, Ott began developing the skills which would see him go on to work with many of those who created the sounds which inspired him in the first place - Brian Eno, The Orb, Youth, African Head Charge, Steve Hillage, and On-U-Sound.

After spending the 1990's freelancing around London as a studio engineer and producer, Ott celebrated the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st by giving it all up and moving to a remote cottage in South West England to be alone with his cats and his studio. With a vague plan to create the perfect soundtrack to an outdoor English festival he embarked on a series of sonic experiments, drawing heavily on the classic dub sounds from Jamaica and hypnotic electronic pulse from Germany which had provided such a refuge during the 1980's. A period of intense creativity followed, during which a great many tracks were created and then stashed away on tapes, seemingly never to see the light of day.

Buoyed by the success of "Hallucinogen in Dub", the following year Ott gathered together and released his earlier sonic experiments as the album "Blumenkraft" which was also very well received and which attracted a great many listeners around the world.
